Community Responsibility Endowment Fund

The Community Responsibility Endowment Fund (CREF) was begun in 1982 by members of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio and put in a trust fund, to grow in perpetuity. Each year members and friends add to the corpus of the trust. Only the interest money is used to address the needs of the greater community in the San Antonio metropolitan area. The monetary gifts, given each spring, are called “Flower Power” grants.

The trustees of the Community Responsibility Endowment Fund in 2013 are: John Garland, Mary Kay Stewart, June Kachtik, Theresa Addington, Jordan Reed, and Debra Bircher. The trustees are calling on our members to nominate their favorite non-profit organizations to be considered for a Flower Power grant. Our by-laws require that the person who signs the nomination form be a member of the church.

To be eligible for a grant, an organization must qualify as an exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; reflect the values of the current membership of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio; and serve the San Antonio metropolitan area.
