A program of giving coordinated by our Social Justice Team
Since July 2007, our congregation has regularly contributed money collected through our worship service’s offering to a local non-profit organization that carries out our Unitarian Universalist principles. The program also increases awareness and connections between our community and these organizations, each of which has been nominated by a member and selected by vote at our annual meeting in May. On the third Sunday of most months, loose cash and checks not identified for another purpose which are placed in the offering plate are counted separately and a check is sent to the recipient organization.
We provide our congregation information about the recipient organization each month. In addition to raising awareness among the congregation and providing some financial resources, Share the Plate offers opportunities for our members to develop and deepen connections with these nonprofit organizations. Our vision is that we will not only give money, but stay in contact with the organization and have members choose to get more involved with it. To that end, we maintain a list of previous recipients on our site, with links to the organizations’ websites.
